Reduce your risk of Cancer

Posted on: July 16th, 2012 by yum vege No Comments

According to Dr. Weil, a healthy diet can help the body in its efforts to heal itself, and in some cases, particular foods can lessen the risks of serious illness. To help reduce your risk of some types of cancer, try the following:

  • Avoid polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarine, vegetable shortening, all partially hydrogenated oils and all foods that might contain trans-fatty acids (such as deep-fried foods).
  • Minimize or eliminate consumption of foods with added sugar.
  • Increase omega-3 fatty acid intake by eating more cold-water oily fish, freshly ground flaxseed and walnuts.
  • Reduce consumption of animal foods and try replacing them with plant-based proteins such as whole soy products.
  • Use hormone-free, organically produced products whenever possible.
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Eat shiitake, enokidake, maitake and oyster mushrooms frequently.
  • Drink green tea daily.

tortilla pizza

Posted on: July 7th, 2012 by yum vege No Comments

These simple and easy to make tortilla pizzas have a thin crust and are delicious.

Ingredients:

  • 10 inch flour tortilla shells
  • 1/3 cup tomato sauce – homemade marinara recipe here
  • fresh mozzarella – thinly sliced – around 1/4 pound
  • fresh basil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. You can also cook this on the grill. Easiest on a gas grill! Just put it on medium heat.
  2. Put tortilla shell in oven for 5 minutes so that it gets a little baked. If using grill, put it on the grill for 1-2 mins.
  3. Remove from oven/grill & spread sauce over the shell.
  4. Add the sliced or shredded cheese.
  5. Place pizza on a pizza pie sheet (the one with little holes in the bottom or a pizza stone) and place in the oven. If putting on the grill, just put it directly on the grill, close the lid and check it every couple of minutes.
  6. Bake for around 8 minutes in the oven.
  7. Top with fresh basil.

There you go!
