Who are we?

We are both vegetarians / sometime vegans. I have been a vegetarian for over 25 years and have a B.S. degree in Nutrition & Dietetics. My husband loves to cook and we both love to eat.

On becoming vegetarian: We love animals. We fully believe “vegetarians don’t eat their friends.” You have to fully want to become vegetarian / vegan in order for it to work for you. There are some great resources out there to help you cross the line: peta’s vegetarian starter kit. Once you do, you’ll never regret it.

My experience with soy milk: it took me a while to embrace it, I must admit. I know plenty of people that love it immediately. But perseverance won out for me and now I love it and look forward to it. So, if you have any problems with the adjustment, trust me, hang in there. Also there are other choices out there such as rice milk and almond milk. I actually love unsweetened almond milk and it’s my drink of choice these days. Due to the arsenic in rice these days, I try to mix it up with different drinks. They are all good.

Tofu – I LOVE tofu. I CRAVE tofu. It’s delicious and so good for you. Some say it has anti-cancer properties and it’s good for peri- and menopausal symptom relief. Try it plain (ha ha, I like it). Another suggestion: grilled tofu – sliced thickly and cooked on the grill – just brush it with a little olive oil, tamari, soy or bragg’s amino acids, salt and pepper. It gets a crispy and more solid texture after being grilled – it’s unbelievably tasty.
