Cooking Tip: Reducing the amount of fat, sugar or salt
In most recipes you can cut back on the amount of fat, sugar or sodium in the recipe. Generally, I have reduced the amount of each by 1/3 and the recipes have always tasted delicious. For example, if a recipe calls for 1 stick of butter, I use 2/3 stick. In addition, by reducing the amount of cheese or using a low-fat alternative, you can still make great recipes with less fat and calories. Note: If making bread or something that requires yeast, be sure to use the recommended amount of salt. |
banana ginger smoothie
Yum. We could drink this every day. Sweet, slightly spicy, yeah -- good stuff and think of the health benefits. I, for one, love ginger.
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe banana (frozen or fresh)
- 1 tbsp ginger, minced (more or less to your desire!)
- 1/4 cup of juice (mango is good)
- 1/4 cup soy or rice milk
- couple of ice cubes
Directions:
1. Put all the items in the blender, blend away.
2. Add more juice, rice or soy milk, ice cubes until you get the consistency you like.
3. Enjoy.
