The Old Fashioned Cocktail – as made by Paul from The Stockade Tavern, in Kingston NY. One of my favorite drinks!


  • 1 sugar cube
  • 3 oz Rye Whiskey, could use Bourbon too
  • 3 shakes Angostura Bitters
  • 4 or 5 large ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon water, or club soda


  1. place sugar cube in bottom of cocktail glass, add water and bitters and muddle (mix to dissolve sugar)
  2. add Rye Whisky and Ice and stir about 20 seconds
  3. add a twist of lemon, from a little lemon peel. Flavor the rim with a stroke of lemon peel across the glass top, and drop peel into the drink
